Japanese respondents seem to marginally prefer desktop computers to laptops for their personal use.

In Korea and China, however, desktop computers are far more popular than laptops.

The results across all countries indicate that 18-24-year olds, more than any other age group, prefer laptops. The older the respondents, the more likely they are to use desktop computers. |
•Question 2 :Which brand of computer do you own? (single choice)

In Japan, the top market-share brand is NEC (19%), followed by Dell (16%) and Fujitsu (15%).

In Korea, custom-built computers are the most common (41%), followed by other [brands] (32%) and HP(13%).

In China, custom-built computers are also the most common (39%), followed by other [brands] (26%) and Dell(12%). |
• Question 3 : How much did you pay for your computer? (single choice)

In Japan, about 50% of respondents said the cost of their PCs ranged between ¥100K to 170K. [US$1 ≒ ¥100]

Amongst Korean respondents, the majority (69%) stated that their PCs ranged between 500KRW to 1500 KRW [US$1 ≒ 1360 KRW]

And amongst Chinese respondents, the majority (52%) cited a range between 4000 Yuan to 5999 Yuan [US$1 ≒ 7 Yuan].

In all countries, the size of the screen was bigger when it came to desktop computers as compared to laptops.

- Japan: printers (89%), digital cameras (80%) and USB accessories (43%)
- Korea: speakers (86%), USB accessories (84%) and printers (83%)
- China: USB accessories (79%), digital cameras (71%) and speakers (69%).

In Korea and China, the use of speakers and USB accessories are more common than in Japan.

Chinese respondents seemed to use Web cams more (46%) than Japanese (17%) and Korean (21%) respondents. |
• Question 6 : Which OS do you mainly use? (single choice)

Across the countries, the most common OS platform is Windows XP. Approximately 59%, 52% and 72% of respondents in Japan, Korea and China, respectively, claimed to favor it.

In China and Korea, the second most common OS platform is Windows XP Professional; 29% and 16% of respondents, respectively, professed to use it. |
