Question 1 : Have you traveled overseas? (single choice)

  • Overall, Korean travelers seem to have the most experience in traveling overseas; approximately 75% of them answered to have traveled in the past. Japanese (65%) and Taiwanese (58%) follow.
  • Only in China, the number of respondents who have never traveled overseas topped the number of those who have. Interestingly, more than half of Chinese female respondents (54%) answered to have never taken an international trip.
  • It is also interesting that there is a clearly different trend among teenagers across all countries. As many as 67% of Korean teenagers turned out to have international travelling experience, comparing to 16% in Japan, 29% in China and 11% in Taiwan.

•Question 2 :How many times have you traveled overseas? (single choice)

  • In all countries, approximately 50% of respondents with international traveling experience claim to have taken 1-3 trips so far.
  • Looking at those who answered “7-9 times”, in all countries but in Taiwan, more female respondents replied to have done so than males.
  • Taiwanese travelers seem to take trips more often than those in other counties; about 28% of them said that they have traveled more than 7 times comparing to 26% of Japanese, 20% of Korean and 14% of Chinese respectively.

• Question 3 : How often do you travel overseas? (single choice)

  • Most Japanese (84%) respondents answered that they travel overseas once a year.
  • Comparing to other countries, as many as 26% of Chinese respondents answered that they travel 2-3 times a year, comparing to 11% of Japanese, 17% of Korean and 20% of Taiwanese respectively.

• Question 4 : How long, on average, is your trip? (single choice)

  • In Japan, Korea and Taiwan, respondents showed a similar pattern. The most common length of a trip is 4-5 days; 47%, 54% and 52% of them respectively claimed so.
  • However, in China, Chinese respondents seem to spend more time on a trip. “4-5 days” and “6-7 days” seem to be equally popular. In addition, 8-10 day trips seem to be more popular than in other countries.

 • Question 5 : How much, on average, do you spend on a trip?(single choice)

  • In all countries/regions, spending $1000- $1999 on a trip seems to be most common.
  • Relatively speaking, Japanese respondents seem to spend the most money, followed by Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese.

• Question 6 : How do you usually arrange your trip? (multiple choice)

  • In Japan, Korea and Taiwan, respondents had similar answers; the most common way to arrange a trip is by taking advantage package tours; 57% , 57% and 55% of them respectively claimed to do so.
  • On the other hand, most Chinese travelers seem to arrange everything on their own.
  • Across countries, arranging “only transportation” or “only accommodation” is not as popular as other ways of arrangement.
