Question 1 : How often do you drink alcohol at home? (single choice)
           
            
             
                                                                                     
  • Overall, Japanese respondents tend to drink more often than those in other countries. 
  • A large number of elder Japanese male said they drink every day at home; 53% of male respondents over 45 yrs in Japan answered so.
  • Female respondents in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China seem to drink less frequently than the same gender groups in other countries; more than 40% of female respondents in these countries claim that they drink once every few months.
       
   
 •Question 2 : How often do you drink alcoholic beverages outside your home? (single choice)     
             
               
                    
                                            
  • Respondents in Korea and China seem to drink outside more often than those in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan;58% and 55% of Korean and Chinese respondents respectively answered that they drink outside the home more often than once a week, comparing to 27%, 40% and 26% in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively.
  • Taiwanese female are least likely to drink outside of their home. As many as 65% of females said they drink once every few months.

  • In Japan, beer is the drink consumed the most. Looking at the data by age break, among all ages except 20-24 yrs group, beer is the most commonly consumed. 
  • In Korea, beer and shochu are the most popular drinks. 
  • In China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, beer and wine are the most popular. 
  • Cocktail/Spirit-based drinks are more popular among females than males. Female respondents in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan particularly seem to favor these drinks.
  
 
• Question 4 : What type of food do you most often eat when drinking? (single choice)                 
 
    
              
  • Across the countries, meal and Snack/Cheese/nuts are the most common foods to go along with drinks.
  • In all countries except Japan, fruit is placed as the 3rd.
  • On the other hand, “alcohol only” is the 3rd most common drinking circumstance in Japan.
 
 
 • Question 5 : What are the important factors when it comes to choosing an alcoholic beverage? (up to 3 choices)        
                
                
    
               
  • In all countries regardless of age and gender, taste/preference is the most important factor.
  • In all counties except Japan, alcohol percentage seems to be one of the important factors;More than 30% of respondents in 4 counties said it is important. Especially in China as many as 53% of respondents said so.
 
 
• Question 6 : Where do you often drink outside of your home?                     
                          
     
   
*Respondents in Japan and Korea were allowed to choose a single answer while those in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan were allowed to choose multiple answers.         

Look at the data from Japan and Korea,

  • In Japan and Korea, pubs/Izakayas are the most popular place to drink.
  • Among Korean respondents, aged of 19-24 yrs, bars seem to be the second most poplar place to have drink (20%).
As for China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, results showed;
  • For all Chinese age groups, restaurants are the most popular place to drink, followed by friends’ houses and pubs. 
  • For all age groups in Taiwan, friends’ houses are the most popular to drink. 
  • In Hong Kong, the most popular places to drink slightly differ, depending on age group.
