Summary

•Question 1 : How much is the global recessions impacting you? (single choice)
- Among the 6 countries, it seems that Chinese respondents least feel that the global recession is impacting them; only 9% answered that the recession is impacting them severely and 30% said significantly.

On the other hand, Taiwan respondents seem that they feel the recession most; 16% said severe and 46% said significantly.

•Question 2 : Is the recession creating emotional distress in your life? (single choice)

It seems that Japanese respondents feel emotional distress the most; 30% of them cited the recession is creating emotional distress severely.

Especially, 35% of 25-44 Japanese male respondents answered that they feel severely.

On the other hand, a relatively larger percentage of Chinese and Indian respondents claimed that they do not feel emotional distress; 16% and 14% of them respectively answered so. |
• Question 3 : How has the recession effected you personally? (Up to 3 choices)

In all countries except Korea, Income/Bonus reduction is a top element that respondents feel the recession affect them personally.

In Korea, “observe inflation” is number 1; 75% of the respondents said they noticed an inflation.

Comparing to other countries, in Japan, over half of the respondents (about 53%) said they feel the recession when they hear news about companies going bankrupt.

Except in Japan, about more than 50% of the respondents answered that the recession affect them personally because their investment values have decreased. |
• Question 4 : How do you cut your personal/household expenses? (single choice)

In all countries, the top three ways to cut expenses are “Cut dining out”, “Reduce travel/leisure activities”, and “Reduce clothing/beauty care product”

In Korea, China and India, more than 20% of respondents said they cut expenses by reducing the monthly saving deposit. |
• Question 5 : What actions does your company take to tackle recession? (up to 3 choices)

Results vary across the countries.

In Hong Kong and Taiwan, more than 40 % of the respondents answered that their company implemented lay offs to cut expensive whereas in Japan and Korea, less that 20% of them said so.

In Japan, instead of laying off, it seems that many of the respondents’ employers (40%) cut working hours to tackle the recessions.

More than 50 % of Indian respondents cited that their companies reduced business trips and telecommunication expenses. |
• Question 6 : Which industry do you think is most impacted by the global recession? (Single choice)
• Question 7 : How long do you expect the recession to last for? (Single choice)

It seems that Indian respondents are most optimistic about the recession; About 25% of them said the recession will last for only less than 1 year whereas only 4% of Japanese answered so.

In all countries, the majority of respondents (57% to 71%) believe that the recession will last for 1-3 years. |
