The two I-News reveals the result of the usage of contact lenses and eye glasses. This issue will focus on the usages and satisfaction/dissatisfaction points for contact lenses users.  
         
   
  
Question 1 :What kind of vision correction do you use? (single choice)
 
    
 
 
                                                                                                                   
  • More people in Hong Kong and Japan use both contact lenses and glasses than in other countries. In the 25-34 age bracket, the number exceeds more than half.
  • In India more people have a single ownership of ‘only glasses’ compared with other countries.
  • Across most countries, as age increases, glasses are chosen for the vision correction.
  • Common to most countries, females tend to have both contact lenses and glasses.
       
   
 •Question 2 :What kind of contact lenses do you use? (single choice)     
        
         
              
                                                                                                         
  • In most countries, disposables are used more frequently than rigid contact lenses.
  • Especially in India, the penetration of disposable lenses is 95%.
  • Aside from China and India, rigid gas permeable lense usage increases with age.
 
 
• Question 3 : How many hours a day on average do yuo wear your contact ? (single choice)  
 
  
         

     

  • Average usage is over 8 hours, except for China.
  • Japan has the highest average usage, over 12 hours, at a combined 36% (12-16 = 27.3% + more than 16 = 8.7%)
  • Japan and Taiwan showed a small group of users with usage above 16 hours, where the rest of the countries showed zero or close to zero usage.
  
 
• Question 4 : When do you wear your contact lenses? (multiple choices)                 
                           
  • In most countries, females answered with usage on a ‘special occasion’
  • Male usage was high in most countries for ‘sporting activities’ compared with females, with the exception of China.
  • In Korea, the usage for ‘work/school’ was highest at over 80%.
  • In Japan, Korea, Taiwan, 80% of the people between 18-24 selected ‘work/school’ for their most intensive usage.
 
 
 • Question 5 : When did you start to use contact lenses? (single choice)         
                              
  • Respondents in China and Hong Kong seem to start using contact lenses earlier;67% and 57% of them respectively said they began when they were under 10 years old. 
  • Especially in China, almost all of respondents answered that they started to use contact lenses before they turned 20 years old.
  • In Japan, Korea and India, more than half of the respondents started to use contact lenses between 15-25 years old.
 
 
 • Question 6 : What are you satisfied with when you wear your contact lenses? (up to 3 choices)    
      
 
                                    
  • The results vary depending on the countries.
  • In Japan, “visibility” is at the top (70%), and in Korea and China and Taiwan, “convenience” is most chosen.
  • In Hong Kong, “safety”, “visibility”. “convenience”, and “suitability for sports” are almost equally chosen.
 
• Question 7 : What are your concerns when you wear your contact lenses? (up to 3 choices)    
      
 
                                    
  • Respondents in Japan, Taiwan and India are cost conscious;59%, 54% and 49% of them reported higher cost is a high concern.
  • In all countries, “eyes get tired easily’ is a major concern.
  • In Hong Kong and Taiwan, “discomfort” is the biggest concern. Particularly more females complain about it.
