Summary
Following the last issue of the I-News, which showed the results of contact lens usage, this issue reveals the results of the usage and satisfaction level of glasses wearers. 
         
   
  
Question 1 :Why do you wear glasses? (single choice) 
       

  • Across most countries, except India, people tend to wear glasses for nearsightedness. However, the trend for presbyopia, increases for those over 45 yrs old.
  • In India, most pepole wear glasses for farsightedness, which is in contrast to other countries surveyed. Especially among the 18-34 age group, more than half wear glasses for farsightedness.
  • In Japan and Korea, approximately 10% of 18-24 year olds wear glasses for farsightedness.
       
   
 •Question 2 :How many hours a day do you wear our glasses? (single choice)     
                       
                               
                                                                                                                           
  • In Japan and Korea, males tend to wear glasses for more than 16hours a day. Females, on the other hand, tend to wear glasses for less than 4 hours.
  • In China, there is not much difference between males and females in length of usage, yet in other countries, usage of females is much shorter.
  • In Hong Kong, usage of glasses is the highest in the 18-24 age group, at 47%, for over 16 hours.
 
 
• Question 3 : When do you wear glasses? (multiple choices)  
          
             
  • Compared to other countries, home usage of glasses is the highest at over 70% in Hong Kong and Japan.
  • In China and Taiwan, usage is the highest at the Office and at school, at over 70%.
  • Driving usage is the highest in Japan.
  
 
• Question 4 : When did you start to use glasses to correct your vision? (single answer)                      

                                 
  • In China, a high percentage of people (both male and female) started to use glasses before 10 yrs old, as well as more than half started before 15 years old.
  • Female usage usually started at a younger age compared to males (with the exception of China).
  • India had the highest age of ‘first use’ of glasses at over 50% over 20 years of age.
 
 
 • Question 5 : What are you satisfied with when you wear your glasses? (up to 3 choices)         
                              
  • 'Easy to Use' was the most popular answer across all countries.
  • For the younger age groups in Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, ‘safety’ is a popular reason for choosing glasses.
  • In all countries, more than half of the responders said that ‘easy to use' and 'easy to maintain' were the reasons of choice for glasses.
 
 
 • Question 6 : What are your concerns when you wear your glasses?  (up to 3 choices)    
                            
                                   
  • With the exception of India, ‘discomfort’ was the top concern with glasses. India’s top concern was ‘scratches on the lenses’.
  • In China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, in all age groups, top reason was ‘discomfort’ followed by ‘scratches on the lenses’, but in Japan, the second reason was ‘appearance’ in the 18-44 age group.
  • In all countries, top concern was ‘appearance’ in the younger age groups.
 
 
• Question 7 : Are you interested in laser eye sergery (LASIK)? (single choice)   
                         
 
                                    
  • In Korea, people have great interest in Lasik(eye surgery), at over 60%.
  • Lowest interest in Lasik surgery was in Taiwan.
  • Across most countries 18-34 hear olds have the greatest interest in Lasik surgery.
